Seed Harvest

Although seed harvesting is our newest venture, KVF is well versed with past experience in handling native seeds. Each harvest season, several factors (some uncontrollable) contribute to how much seed is available to harvest, when seed is able to be harvested, and how large or small the window is to harvest these native seeds. The most common native seeds harvested by KVF is wire grass, Indian grass, broom sedge, and native wild flowers. In addition to harvesting, KVF takes all steps necessary to ensure proper seed care after harvest, including transport, removing non desired seed species, drying and storage, and transport to the nursery for planting. Having the capability to harvest their own native seeds allows KVF to meet demands for their customers, upcoming projects, and ensure only the highest quality of seed is harvested. Native seeds play in integral part into restoration projects and mitigation banks.
