Mitigation Bank Services
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection defines a mitigation bank as an environmental enhancement and preservation project conducted by a public or private entity(“banker”) to provide mitigation for unavoidable wetland impacts within a defined region (mitigation service area). The two types of mitigation banks are Wetland/Stream Banks and Conservation Banks. Wetland/Stream Banks offer credits that satisfy regulatory compliance for Section 404 of the federal Clean Water Act, and other State and local regulations to mitigating unavoidable impacts to wetland and stream resources. Conservation Banks offer credits that satisfy regulatory compliance for Sections 7 and 10 of the federal Endangered Species Act, and other state and local regulations to mitigate unavoidable impact to threatened and endangered species and their habitats and other sensitive habitat areas. Furthermore, these sites are crucial to providing everlasting sanctuaries to endangered species, exclusive to the unique ecosystem in Florida. KVF works with “bankers” to provide habitat management to threatened and endangered species, restoration, monitoring and enhancements to mitigation banks across Florida. These projects provide KVF with a great sense of pride, knowing that when the end result is achieved, a part of Florida has been restored and preserved to its original state.
